The HMS Vampire was built in England and entered service in 1917 as the Admiralty V-class flotilla leader. In 1933 the destroyer was sold to Australia and transferred to the Royal Australian Navy as HMAS Vampire. In December 1941, the Vampire was involved with other companion destroyers in the rescue of crew members of the HMS Repulse and the HMS Prince of Wales, who were sunk by Japanese aircraft off the coast of British Malaya. 1942 the Vampire and the carrier Hermes were sunk by Japanese aircraft near the British colony of Ceylon. The TAMIYA model of the destroyer on a scale of 1:700 impresses with numerous details such as movable main guns and torpedo tubes. A decal sheet with naval flags and ship numbers is included in the kit.
