1:48 FM-1 Wildcat/Martlet Mk.V, plastic model kit

This 1:48 plastic model kit captures the FM-1 Wildcat/Martlet Mk.V in a compact aircraft build with a fuselage length of 184 mm and the distinctive stance of a carrier-based fighter. The airframe shape is rendered with the shorter, more focused look of the FM-1, making the finished model read clearly on a shelf or in a historical aircraft lineup. The wing parts are tailored to the FM-1 version and depict the 4-gun layout with the correct upper and lower surface differences, including the absence of the machine gun access door on top and the cartridge exhaust port underneath, plus the enlarged magazine panel. A new rear-view mirror part allows the Royal Navy Martlet Mk.V configuration to be built. Fuselage surfaces carry panel lines and rivets that respond well to careful painting and wash work, and the landing gear area is reproduced with the layered structure visible around the main assemblies. The kit also provides 3 marking options: 846th Fighter Squadron, Royal Navy, HMS Tracker, Normandy, June 1944; 58th Mixed Fighter Squadron, U.S. Navy, USS Guadalcanal, North Atlantic, January 1944; and 33rd Mixed Fighter Squadron, U.S. Navy, USS Nassau, California Coast, September 1943. Canopy masking stickers support cleaner frame painting, while the sitting pilot figure adds life to the cockpit during final assembly. Cement, tools and paints are required separately. On the bench, the combination of naval markings, invasion stripes and fine surface engraving gives the finished aircraft a strong World War II presence.
