1:350 Jap. Heavy Cruiser Chikuma, scale model kit

This 1:350 scale model kit recreates the Japanese Heavy Cruiser Chikuma with the long, purposeful lines and unusual warship layout that made the Tone-class instantly recognizable. The bow carries 4 twin 20.3 cm gun mounts, while the stern is arranged to support aircraft operations, giving the finished cruiser a striking silhouette on its display stand. The historical subject adds real substance to the build. Chikuma was completed in May 1939 as the second ship of the Tone-class and was designed for a top speed of 35 knots and long-range operation. The stern arrangement allowed the handling of up to 6 floatplanes, a feature tied directly to the ship's reconnaissance role. During the Pearl Harbor attack in December 1941, floatplanes from Chikuma carried out pre-attack reconnaissance over Pearl Harbor. The ship also served during the Battle of Midway, the Solomon Islands campaign and the Battle of the Leyte Gulf in October 1944. Over about 600 minutes of assembly, the cruiser takes shape through its superstructure, artillery layout and aircraft facilities, making the kit well suited to steady bench sessions with painting and finishing between stages. Once completed, the model suits display in a collection focused on WWII naval subjects, Japanese fleet history or large-scale ship builds.
