540 Sport Tuned, electric motor, RS540 drive unit

300053068

€38.49

The RS540 Sport Tuned electric motor brings a clear step up in drive response for hobby builds that use a 540-size brushed unit. Its tuned setup is designed to outperform standard silver can motors, translating motor input into quicker launches and a higher top end when installed in a compatible RC or model vehicle drivetrain. The cylindrical metal housing carries the RS-540 designation on the can, with an exposed output shaft on one side and attached red and black leads on the other. Bullet-style connectors are fitted to the wires, which helps streamline connection to compatible electronics during a motor swap or fresh build. A printed rotation direction marking on the housing gives a direct visual guide for correct installation, especially where gear mesh and shaft direction need to match the layout of the chassis. The brushed motor format also makes this unit relevant for hobbyists searching specifically for a classic serviceable drive style rather than a brushless system. In use, the motor suits upgrade projects where a stock setup leaves room for more punch on acceleration or more speed on longer runs. It also fits bench builds and replacement work where a 540-class motor with pre-attached leads and a marked rotation direction keeps the drivetrain setup straightforward and focused on running performance.

€59.49

The CR-01 Crawler Motor CR-Tuned 35T is an RC motor built for slow-moving crawler and truck models that need measured throttle input and strong pulling force. Its 35-turn layout shifts the focus away from outright speed and toward torque, so technical climbs, careful descents and tight obstacle sections feel more controlled at the trigger. In size 540 format, this motor suits a broad range of RC installations and is specified for 7.2 V operation. At that voltage it reaches 12,000 rpm and 36.7 mN/m torque, a combination aimed at low-speed driving rather than high-rev running. The sintered design is paired with smooth power transfer and long endurance, while the black motor body uses an end bell that acts as a heat sink. A 0 lead angle supports consistent performance, and replaceable standard type brushes allow maintenance when the motor sees regular trail use. The scope of delivery contains 1 electric motor. In a crawler chassis, the output suits rock sections, uneven ground and slow line corrections where wheel placement matters. In RC truck builds, the same torque-focused character supports controlled starts and steady progress under load on scale driving routes.  Warning! Not suitable for children under 14 years.

300022097

€39.99

The Lightly-Tuned II 28T BB motor brings a focused performance step to RC model builds with a 28-turn layout and ball bearing support. As a separate drive component, it suits builders who want a defined replacement motor or a measured tuning change rather than a full electronics package. The can-style format makes it relevant for RC chassis designed for this class of electric motor, while the BB specification points to ball bearings at the rotating assembly. That bearing setup supports smoother running and helps the motor maintain a more even feel through repeated use. The Lightly-Tuned II designation places it in the tuning space between a basic stock motor and more aggressive race-oriented options, which makes it useful when a build calls for a balanced step in response and running character. Because the data identifies this as a motor only, the copy stays focused on the drive unit itself rather than implying extra electronics or accessories. In workshop use, this motor fits naturally into maintenance, replacement, and upgrade planning for RC model projects. It works well when an existing chassis needs a fresh drive unit or when a builder wants to refine the running feel with a clearly specified 28T motor and ball bearing construction.  Warning! RS-540 Torque-Tuned, electric motor for RC cars

300054358

€14.49

The RS-540 Torque-Tuned electric motor is a focused upgrade for RC car builds that need a stronger balance of speed and response than a standard Type 540 motor. With a 25T specification, 16,000 rpm idle speed, 30 mNm torque and 10 A current draw, it is tuned to sharpen acceleration while keeping the setup below the output level of a Sport-Tuned motor. The silver can motor uses a metal output shaft, attached wires and marked rotation direction for clear installation orientation in compatible drivetrains. Its rated voltage is 7.2 V DC, with an operating range of 6.6-8.4 V DC, which gives a defined window for matching battery and drivetrain combinations. Tamiya positions this motor between the standard 27T Type 540 and the 23T Sport-Tuned option, making it a useful step when a stock setup feels too mild and a hotter tune is not the target. In comparative testing on a TT-01 chassis with kit-standard gear ratio, the standard 540 reached 24.3 km/h, this Torque-Tuned motor reached 26 km/h, and the Sport-Tuned motor reached 29.1 km/h. That spread makes the motor well suited to on-road RC car tuning where smoother launches and a modest speed increase matter more than an extreme jump in output. It also works as a replacement when a worn stock motor no longer delivers the same response, letting the drivetrain pick up pace with a clearly defined specification.

RC motors: the power source for your model building adventure

RC motors are the heart of every remote-controlled model. Whether you're driving a fast RC car, a powerful RC truck, or an impressive RC tank – the right motor determines how much fun you'll have with your model building projects. At Tamiya, you'll find a wide selection of high-quality RC motors, perfectly suited to different needs and models.

Electric motors in RC model building: brushed and brushless

Brushed RC motors: ideal for beginners

Brushed RC motors are often the first choice for beginners in model building. These motors have carbon brushes inside that are responsible for transferring electricity. The technology is simple, easy to understand, and allows for straightforward maintenance. Brushed motors are affordable and are perfect for models where top speed is not the priority, such as RC crawlers or RC drift cars. They are ideal for those who want to gain their first experience in RC model building.

Brushless RC motors: powerful and durable

For ambitious model builders looking to get the most out of their vehicles, brushless RC motors are the perfect choice. These motors are brushless, meaning they have no moving parts for electrical transfer. As a result, they are almost maintenance-free, more durable, and offer significantly better performance. Brushless motors for RC cars are known for their high RPM and instant torque, enabling your models to accelerate faster and reach higher speeds. These motors are ideal for racing vehicles and models designed for performance.

Electric motors vs. combustion engines

In RC model building, there are generally two types of motors: electric motors and combustion engines. At Tamiya, we focus entirely on RC electric motors, as they offer many advantages, especially for model builders who value easy handling and low maintenance.

Easy handling and environmentally friendly

Electric motors are easy to operate. Unlike combustion engines, they don’t require fuel and are ready to use as soon as the battery is charged. They produce no emissions, making them more environmentally friendly and suitable for use indoors or in the garden without restrictions. This makes them the ideal choice for those who want to use their models flexibly.

Low maintenance and quiet operation

One of the major advantages of RC electric motors is that they are low maintenance compared to combustion engines. You won’t need to adjust carburettors or deal with leftover oil and dirt. Additionally, electric motors are quiet, which is especially beneficial if you're operating them in residential areas or indoors.

Using and maintaining RC motors correctly

Even though brushless RC motors require minimal maintenance, there are a few things you should keep in mind to maximise their lifespan. Ensure that the motor is well ventilated, especially when operating at high speeds and under heavy loads. For brushed motors, it's a good idea to regularly check the brushes for wear and replace them if necessary to maintain consistent performance.
